OUR FAVOURITE BEACHES

Here is our little list of beach recommendations, our favourite beaches have minimal or no facilities, so be sure to take enough water with you, we are also happy to lend you a beach umbrella if you want! Beaches get very busy during the season, so we recommend you go early!

In case you are wondering, a “Cala” is the term used in Spanish to refer to small cove, often with a sandy beach or a rocky shore.

NORTHWEST COAST

Cala Tuent (40 km) 1 hour drive from the Finca or 50 mn boat ride from Port de Sóller

Cala Tuent is a remote, tranquil beach with stunning views of the surrounding Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. Located near the popular Cala Sa Calobra and Torrent de Pareis, Cala Tuent remains a quieter beach, with fewer tourists due to the fact that tourist buses don't pass through here. The 100-metre-long beach is made up of pebbles and gravel. The sea is clean and clear, switching from a light green to blue depending on the time of year and weather. It is a popular beach for locals and tourists interested in having a relaxing day at the beach. It is less accommodating to families with young children because of the long road to arrive, the harder pebbled sand, and the fact that there are no facilities on site. There are no restaurants or snack bars on the beach so you must bring your own food and drinks if you plan to stay awhile. If you want to avoid the 40 km (1 hour) car drive through the mountains, we recommend getting there by boat, it is a beautiful 50mn boat ride that leaves Port de Sóller at 9h50 and comes back at 16h50. The cost is 33,00 Euros per person for a return ticket and you get a 10% discount when booking online: Barcos Azules. There is only one restaurant in Cala Tuent (10 mn hike from the beach), so unless you are taking a pic-nic we recommend you book in advance: Restaurant Es Vergeret

NORTH COAST

Playa de Formentor (77km) 1 hour drive to Port de Pollensa + 30 mn boat ride

Formentor Beach does give off a Caribbean feel thanks to its native Mallorcan pine trees swaying over the beach that provide shade and add to its picturesque appeal.

There's a thin strip of soft white sand almost 1 km long, clear, shallow water. This gorgeous beach also features the famous Hotel Formentor, which has welcomed famous guests including Audrey Hepburn and Charlie Chaplin and that is reopening in 2024 after a complete renovation under the Four Seasons flag.

Located around 14 km from Puerto Pollensa on the very northern tip of Mallorca. Since 2021 due to the excess of traffic on the Formentor road, traffic is heavily restricted from 10:00 AM to 10:30PM, so we recommend that you take the 334 bus from Port de Pollensa. Another option is to go take the boat (our recommendation) from Port de Pollensa, tickets must be booked online: Boat from Port de Pollensa to Formentor

NORTHEAST COAST

Cala Agulla (92 km) 1,5 hour drive from the Finca Cala Agulla is a beautiful sand beach surrounded by pine trees and mountains, situated in the municipality of Capdepera. The water here is sparklingly clean and appears wonderfully light blue, making it the perfect place for swimming and to practise watersports. Well-connected by pedestrian paths to Cala Mesquida, and along the way you pass neighbouring Cala Moltó, frequented by naturists. Snack bar and a pay-to-park area. Cala Agulla sits adjacent to the larger, popular beach resort of Cala Ratjada, and the surrounding hotels and villa rentals here contribute to a mixed crowd that includes families, tourists, particularly popular with Germans, and some locals.

Cala Mesquida (94 km) 1,5 hour drive from the Finca The magnificent Cala Mesquida bay lies six kilometres to the north of Cala Ratjada and its open views make it one of the most beautiful in the north-east of the island. The fine white sands make it great for relaxing or walking, and this is one of the few beaches where surfers can often catch a wave.

SOUTH COAST

Playa de Es Trenc (72 km) 1h05 drive from the Finca It is hard to ignore the natural beach of Es Trenc, which is the most popular beach in Mallorca. A long beach with fine-grained, bright sand and dunes behind the beach. The turquoise shades of the water give the beach an almost tropical look. Es Trenc is located between the very small town of Ses Covetes and the larger holiday resort Colonia de Sant Jordi. There are several paying parking lots, which can be reached by following the signs to Es Trenc. We must warn you that Es Trenc is a natural area with restrictions on traffic and you cannot drive all the way to the beach. Parking close to Es Trenc is quite a complicated issue in summer due to the volume of traffic, with its consequent queues and waiting times, and due to parking prices (not cheap, and that’s if you find a space), we recommend getting there early. Restaurant options on Es Trenc Beach are not many, we recommend bringing a picnic.

Playa de Es Carbó (74km to Colonia de Sant Jordi) 1h05 drive from the Finca + 30 mn walk. Es Carbó, is a long stretch of white sand beach with crystal clear blue waters in the south of Mallorca. The beach is backed by sand dunes, pine trees and low-lying desert bushes and little else. The popular resort town of Colonia Sant Jordi is the nearest town and from where you depart on foot to access this rather beautiful and remote beach. Es Carbó is only accessible by foot or by boat. On foot from Colonia Sant Jordi, you must walk 2.3 kilometres, about 30 minutes along low lying cliffs and sand to reach the beach. You also have the option to rent a no license boat in Colonia de Sant Jordi, and you will reach the beach in style in only 5 mn. The beach of Es Carbó is over 1 kilometre long, but there is little going on here in terms of action and activities. There are no umbrellas or lounge chairs, no water sports activities for hire, no facilities, and no

restaurants. The beach attracts many local residents, Spanish mainland tourists and Germans, and because of the lack of amenities and access, you'll see more of a younger-middle-aged crowd here, hikers and the hearty beachgoer, and fewer families with children. You'll notice a lot of seaweed along the beach, called posidonia meadow. It's harmless and just part of the natural deposits left by the sea in this area. So, bring a backpack with water, food and a good book and enjoy a peaceful day at the beach!

SOUTHEAST COAST

Cala S’Amarrador (79 km) 1h15 from the Finca

Cala s’Amarrador is one of the virgin beaches found in the Mondragó Natural Park, on the Santanyí coast. It is a beach of fine white sand and waters of a luminous clear blue. This gem of a beach is still in its natural state. The beach is surrounded by tall pine trees and the view is stunning. S’Amarrador is 145 metres long and 50 metres wide with fine, white sand and clear, shallow water. Should you wish to visit the equally beautiful neighbouring beach of Cala Mondragó, you can follow the 300-400-metre-long mountain path that connects the two. Despite being smaller than S’Amarrador, Cala Mondragó is significantly busier. You can park your car in the large parking lot situated five minutes from the beach.

Some other famous remote beaches are Es Coll Baix in Alcudia, Cala Murta in Formentor, and Cala Torta in Artá. However, they do not have easy access, require some hiking and parking can be a challenge during summer….so only for the most adventurous!

Caló des Moro and Cala S’Almunia near Cala Llombards on the southwest of the island are two of the most beautiful coves in Mallorca. However, we are afraid to report that these two beaches have “died of success” and we cannot recommend them anymore. Due to the spread of photos on social media, the popularity of this coves has led to overcrowding of the tiny beach. They are saturated with people. Some people have reported 3 to 4 hours of queuing, almost 1000 people waiting to see the cove and swim there…or just to take a photo!
